Geek it up! We heart Star Trek!!

Today our team went to see Star Trek which was totally fun. I would have taken pictures but, you know, it was a dark theater and I did NOT want to upset the fans. We saw the movie at the IMAX theater in Seattle which made the whole experience extra awesome. Check out our Star Trek content –start with Laremy’s Review: Star Trek is Big, Big Fun at the Movies. Comments are Screaming and Invite Your Friends!!

Comments on Film.com are working perfectly now, which is fantastic. You never know what you had til it’s gone. Well, we had comments working, then they stopped, and we missed them terribly, so our developers fixed everything and now they’re working again. I know, that’s probably more info than you ever wanted about our commenting system here at Film.com. So here’s the bottom line. We love getting comments on our stories. Fire away.

Secondly, you can now invite your friends from your email accounts (gmail, etc.) to join you on Film.com. This is a great way to bring your network with you. Introduce your friends to Film.com and let them hear what you really think about entertainment.

Oh, you guys. We know. Our comments aren’t working properly and we are very focussed on trying to fix them. Sometimes when you write a comment it posts, and sometimes it doesn’t appear at all. We will not rest ’til they’re fixed. Meanwhile, we’re terribly sorry for any inconvenience. Will update you as soon as we have a fix in place.

Summer is coming. We just know it.

It may not feel like it up here in Seattle, but we at Film.com are keeping the faith. Summer is indeed coming and with it a host of whizz-bang movies that we can’t wait to see. Check out our Summer Movie Preview: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Wolverine, Harry Potter, Star Trek, and Terminator: Salvation… the question isn’t which to see but which to see first.

This week, we launched two new features for our Film.com community members: Photos and Blogs:

Now you guys can write your own blogs on Film.com, and upload your own photo galleries. The noteworthy thing about these new features is that our community members can beef up and otherwise enrichen their persona pages, which is cool. We’ve already seen a lot of creativity from our community members and look forward to seeing how photos and blogs get used in the name of total persona development on Film.com. Have at it!

What I’ve been doing with my mind.

You guys have heard the stern warnings against amusing ourselves to death, right? I say, whatever. My New York Times mysteriously stopped coming to my house this weekend. I have not listened to NPR in days. And you know what? I don’t think much has changed. Housing crisis: check. Bernie Madoff’s ongoing investigation: check. Global weirding: got it, check.

My point? I seem to be up to date on the key news items, yet I’ve found more time for entertainment. Here’s what I’ve actually been doing:

TV: Watching American Idol. NCIS. Dancing with the Stars, particularly watching Melissa Rycroft kick some butt.

Movies: Watchmen, obviously. And reading Dre Rivas’ brilliant Five Reasons Watchmen Works. Which it does, Laremy Legel. Regardless of what you say.

Other activites: Twitter. Follow me @heathergilmour. Also Facebook, Reading my favorite blog: The Evil Beet.

I keep myself busy.

This whole Watchmen thing

I need to talk about this whole Watchmen thing. It first hit my radar when Laremy, our movies producer, wrote this Open Letter to 20th Century Fox RE: Watchmen, which inspired my friend Bob Jennings to make this Nerd Alert: The Watchmen Movie Lawsuit YouTube video:

Since then, we’ve posted many stories on Watchmen, including today’s headline story, Watchmen’s Opening Weekend Box Office: Fearless Prediction. And this: Two Weeks of Watchmen!.

It doesn’t stop there. In fact, it seems, this Watchmenmania is just revving up. And it’s really starting to impact the Film.com work environment.

Here’s Stu, one of our developers, who seems to be leading the pack on Watchmen paraphernalia:

Film.com Staff Blog: Here at last.

You guys, I’m so happy to finally have a Film.com staff blog. There’s a lot to talk about and I’ve tried to keep the world posted via Twitter and Facebook, but this is really a better venue. So, welcome, hello, and thank you for coming.

Today is the day after the Oscars, which we documented here: http://www.film.com/movies/oscars. It’s a stylishly designed page with a lot of information including a witty, incisive live blog by Laremy Legel, our resident expert: http://www.film.com/features/story/academy-award-winners-live-blog/26194112. The Academy Awards are always a strange and amazing event. I, personally, was glad to see Slumdog Millionaire get so much attention. Clearly everyone involved put forth a heroic effort to get the film made, and I applaud them. Check out our Oscars coverage out and please leave us your comments.

In other news, our fearless leader has ruptured his achilles tendon. We miss you, fearless leader! Please get well soon; we’re thinking of you.
